i cannot really say which is better. I have never captured an EVP. I have heard several from both Analog and Digital.

Personal Finance feelings is Digital is better, cheaper in the long run, you can reuse it over and over and over again, easier to transfer to computer for long term storage.

But isn't the original theory of EVP the energy is collected on the tape from the ghost?

I'm gonna go onto a different tangent and say it's the person, and not the equipment that gets good EVP's.
There are some people that can use 50 different recorders and never get a single EVP, and there are some who get EVP just about every time they turn on the recorder. Is it the equipment, or is it the person who's using it that draws in the EVP's? I myself have caught very good EVP on BOTH types of recorders. I just use digital now due to the cost involved in using an analog recorder and having to replace tapes.

I agree partially with ANDYTHERADIOMAN.

It is the person. Think of the person as a beacon that can attract the spirit.

And then there is the proximity of the microphone to the spirit.
This would explain why some recorders pick up these EVPs and some don't.

But I think I am getting off on a tangent.

Why would one(digital or analog) be better than the other ? I don't know.

But It would be interesting if someone ran simultaneous audio capturing trial sequences with both devices with the MICROPHONES close together over several hunting sessions. Now that would come close to answering your question.

But for me, the person and the proximity are critical keys to capturing EVP.

Low Frequency Resonance is another factor, but then thats another topic all together.

And here is another interesting thing to think about- "way back when" - before Thomas Edison invented the speaker,
he captured sounds via MECHANICALLY-using a hand crank Audio-fone. (I don't know the exact name of this device). But its basically a hollow tube that would embed a sound vibration via indentions mechanically onto this tube. This would add yet another choice for spirits to use.

To me, this might be the most simplistic method to capture an EVP. Considering that spirits are electromagnetic by nature. Maybe this method could work better ? Less worry about electrical interference. Spirits might be more inclined to work with a device that does NOT emit an EMF field.

I know, I went off on a tangent. Sorry.
