I've heard stories to confirm some of these and more.
There are stories of hauntings at a house, which remain at the house no matter who lives there, or how much the house changes over the years. I've heard of stories of a ghost apparently walking thru mid air where at one time would have been a floor or staircase.

I've also heard of people themselves being haunted. No matter where they move to, the paranormal phenomenon effects their everyday lives.

The only thing I've never heard of is whether or not someone has moved an entire haunted house from one location to another.

Yay - Andy's giving me food for thought.

The whole ghosts walking through mid air or appearing to be sunken, as if walking on an old floor which has since been raised. These involve relatively minor structural changes and don't effect the overall integrity of the building. If we believe that entities can be tied to people / objects / places the assumption would be that they are tied to the overall structure and NOT, for example, an old staircase that has since been removed and which they, the 'ghost', now walk through.

For entities tied to people, when the person 'affected' dies - what happens to the phenomena? Does it take up home where the person passed or simply dissipate?

I know I don't help by posing MORE questions but I relish seeing people THINKING about metaphysical conundrums.

Or some crazy American who takes a fancy to a reputedly haunted pub in England.

If I had the money, I'd bloody do it!

well i beleave that depends on what type of haunting were talking about..a residule will continue to do the samething whether theres a change in the structure or not..and also this can be attached to the property it self ..i have a teaset my wife bought at a yard sale that seems to hold a spirit..when ever we put it out and go somewere and come home they are stacked on top of one another ..cup, saucer,cup, saucer..altho we have never exsperanced any paranormal stuff in our home before and we have lived here for 17 yrs ..
but i think diffrent types of spirits attach to diffrent things and for any reason there is..
a poltergis ,in most cases i have been involved in was contributed to a young person going threw a change in life {puberty}..mostly young girls but not just girls ..we had a client that was facing things every night for months and then it all just stopped ..we found thwe son was having a really tough time adjusting to a new school and there was a bully involved and once the trouble with the bully stopped so did the strange things that they were exsperancing..we know gettysburg is haunted and if we dug up all the battlefeilds and removed the dirt ,i beleave the ground there would still hold spirits..some residule ,some not..i guess my answer would be anything is possible and we kind of have to beleave this because there is just so much we dont really know yet...but we are trying ....hehehe......lauren

Does that include if the haunted structure is demolished? Will a residual just keep doing it's thing, sometimes multiple tens of feet in the air.

Taking the tea set you mentioned as an example: if you were to destroy it, would the 'attached' spirit dissipate? Would it die (perhaps for the second time.) If we believe that everything is comprised of energy and the 'source' of that energy (again; the tea set for example) is destroyed then it would be more than fair to believe the related phenomena will cease.

I do believe RSPK is what has traditionally been thought of as poltergeist activity. Mental distress and an unhealthy psyche have the potential to produce physical phenomena. But I don't believe there's much relation between RSPK and the hauntings of spooks, spectres and ghosts. There are similarities to be sure but I think of them as different shades of the same color.

I like the reference to Gettysburg and can't help but wonder If I were to have dirt from the battlefields shipped to my back yard: is there a quantity or point in time where my property will begin to be haunted? Or is it as simple that any spirits of deceased soldiers are tied to the location and not the land.

I was raised to believe the 4th dimension (time) plays a large part in what we believe is a haunting. The imprint of events on a location, an object, etc. can stay with it. Especially emotionally charged situations. I always think of an antique poker. Would it be more likely to be the cell for a haunting if it had been used to murder someone?

Hope I'm not coming across as combative. Certainly not my intention. I love the thoughts and ideas you raise.

now that would be a locationel haunting ..if the dirt it self was haunted then the dirt that is washed away by rain would be haunted .the whole country would be haunted by ghost scatterd all over...i guess it would have to be a man made thing it would attach to..i am just guessing but it only makes sense that way..then this may exsplain the residule doing its thing even 10 feet above the ground..now i am not sure it would mean we would or could see spirits floating by as we travel in an airplane or not..say from midair collision....as far as the teaset go's, we dont exsperance anything with it in the closit but dose it mean the spirit or what ever is in some kind of holding area till we put them out again..not sure were to go with this but i think the answers to what we seek is just up around the next bend......sorry ...i get a little goofy at times....but the thought of a object being haunted and a location being haunted are they both intelligent or is one more often a residule..it can be both ways i beleave the spirit in the location to be able to be both and as far as the rules go in considering a haunt or just a poltergis type that can be and in most cases contributed by a teenager or some kind of stressful even in a persons life..it subsides as the child comes out of the open minded stage of life or until the stress has stopped..and there for is a poltergis really a haunting or is it just an effect we have developed from our emoitions..the exsperance we no to be very real but a real spirit may not have anything to do with it...only makes sense that way but we all no what may make sense today may bring a whole new feeling tomorrow...as we find answers ,we find more ???????????.....never combative and always craving ghost talk...........lauren

i have been giving this a little more thought and figured i would add what i had not mentiond before..i guess what i wanted to say was that a haunting can be set in motion by a number of things or events..a good thing happening as well as tragities..i think this maybe were the seperation between a residule and a intelligent haunting..and that i think that if we remove a object {wether it be a building or a feild of dirt} that the haunting is tyed to the spot in time and place...i am not sure tho this would make a diffrents in it being a residule or not..but with it being a consistent thing it will be there till its just not anymore..i mean what makes a spirit or what we think to be a spirit and it be from say the 1700's and yet i cant find the spirit to my dead brother who passed away 16 yrs ago..i think alot of these will never be answerd till we take that big dirt nap our selfs..i no you only asked our thoughts on this topic but as you can see you've turn that switch and well its broke now so i guess you'll have to keep reading my thoughts on this till i've exhausted them...sorry...but i'll try and keep them short.....
